Around And About Kennesaw Georgia

Originally known as "the Big Shanty" because there were several shanties that came about when the workers were building the Western and Atlantic Railroad in the 1800s. "Kennesaw" arose from the Cherokee work for burial ground after battles took place there during the Civil War at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain. Today, Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park contains many of these historic spots. First Lady Laura Bush designated Kennesaw a Preserve America Community in 2004.
